You’ve finally decided it’s time to sell your home and buy a new one. Whether your family has outgrown your current space, you’re in a better financial position than when you purchased it, you’re retiring, or you simply want a change, you will need a Realtor®. Real estate transactions are among the largest financial investments people make in their lifetimes, so it’s crucial to work with a professional. Consider this: if you needed a lawyer, would you represent yourself, risking a potentially unfavorable outcome? If facing a medical issue, would you treat yourself or call a doctor? If you had a plumbing problem, would you try to fix it yourself or hire a plumber? Your most likely answer would be: “It depends on how much of an impact each situation would have on my life.” Now, imagine if a mistake was made while selling your home, it could cost you thousands of dollars or, in a worst-case scenario, land you in legal trouble due to an unfamiliarity with Real Estate legalities. A real estate agent is trained to navigate the market, ensuring clients have the best possible experience when selling or buying a home. The ultimate goal of a Realtor® is to put the most money in your pocket at the end of the transaction. It’s important to note that not all real estate professionals are Realtors®; only those who are accountable to the Local, State, and National Board of Realtors® have that designation. How can you recognize a Realtor®? Simply ask them. Your Realtor® will assess the value of your home based on comparable properties sold within the last six months within a one-mile radius of your home. They may also provide suggestions that could increase your home’s value. Sometimes, even a small change can make a significant difference in the selling price. Choose a Realtor® with whom you feel comfortable, and ensure they have a successful track record of selling homes and are knowledgeable about your current real estate market. Only Realtors® have access to the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), which markets homes to other agents across the state, nationally, and internationally. Ensure your Realtor® has a visible marketing plan they can review with you. It’s an added bonus if they can assist with any necessary work on your home and help you get it done without immediate costs. Of course, I’m describing Angie and me—we are your go-to Realtors®.
